New flash card portfolio now available Eschborn, November 2006 - Verbatim once again extended its portfolio of Flash Memory cards: the storage media pioneer presents three MMCmobile cards, one new miniSD and three new microSD cards with various storage capacities. The xD picture card with 1 GB is also new to the range. The tiny storage cards from Verbatim are now available and can be used wherever high performance is needed: in a small space in the latest digital cameras, mobile phones, handheld computers, MP3 players and more.
Verbatim MMCmobile is available with 512 MB and with 1 GB. The dual-voltage cards work at operating voltages of 1.8 V and 3.3 V making them flexible enough to use in mobile phones. The adapter included makes the cards completely compatible with conventional multimedia cards and the successor to the MMC, MMC Plus. The new cards replace the MMC and Reduced Size (RS) MMC that were previously part of the Verbatim portfolio.
The miniSD card from Verbatim is particularly interesting for the new mobile telephone generation from Nokia, Siemens and Motorola. It is specially designed to meet the requirements of the 3G market. Measuring 20 mm × 21.5 mm × 1.4 mm, it is around half the size of a regular secure digital card and yet it can fit in any normal SD slot with the supplied adapter. Additional hardware functions on the card also include special copyright protection so that data can be safely downloaded from the internet and played important for professional use or in MP3 players. Verbatim MiniSD cards are available with 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB and with 2 GB.
Verbatim now provides particularly memory hungry navigation devices, mobile phones and PDAs with its microSD cards. They are about the size of a fingernail, making them the smallest memory cards currently on the market. Here, too, an adapter makes the card compatible with secure digital cards. Verbatim microSD cards are available with 256 MB, 512 MB and with 1 GB.
Finally, Verbatim has added an xD picture card with 1 GB storage space to its portfolio in addition to the existing sizes of 512 MB. It has been optimized for use in Olympus and Fujifilm cameras and, with a read speed of 5 MB/s and a write speed of 3 MB/s, is fast enough to quickly display shots on the camera display. Although measuring 20 mm x 25 mm and 1.7 mm thick, it is much smaller than the smart media cards but is no longer so thin. The advantage is that the sturdier design without large-area contact makes the card less susceptible to electrostatic and torsional damage.
There is a trend toward tiny digital devices becoming smaller and smaller, at the same time the storage capacity requirements are increasing. Therefore the market for these small memory cards will increase rapidely, says Hans-Christoph Kaiser, Business Unit Manager for Flash and USB Memory EUMEA at Verbatim. As a leading supplier of storage media Verbatim can also lend its support to this trend and offers reliable memory with its new flash cards, which meet the usual Verbatim quality in terms of speed and design.
