Q: Does PhotoSave DVD support the Apple Macintosh operating system? PhotoSave DVD does not support the Macintosh OS. PhotoSave DVD support Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista environments. Q: Does PhotoSave DVD support Windows ME and 98? No. PhotoSave DVD supports Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista environments. Q: Do I need DVD burning software to use PhotoSave DVD? PhotoSave DVD has burning software built into the disc. You do not need to have burning software to use PhotoSave DVD. Q: Can PhotoSave DVD be used as a DVD+R burner? PhotoSave DVD requires a DVD burner which support DVD-R writing. Q: How many kinds of files does PhotoSave DVD support? PhotoSave DVD has 3 types of operating modes:
- Auto Copy mode supports searching/storing of JPEG files with extensions .jpg, .jpeg, .jp2 and .jpe.
- Manual Copy mode and Camera/Memory Copy mode supports searching for 96 kinds of files, listed below:

PhotoSave DVD can burn data as long as the size of the data set to be recorded is less than the free disc space. The initial total free space size is about 4.5GB (1GB = 1 billion bytes) and it can store approximately 2,000 photos if the average file size is 2MB. Q: Can I burn multiple times to the same disc? In Auto Copy mode, PhotoSave burns data only one time (the disc is closed after recording). In Manual Copy mode and Camera/Memory Copy mode, data is burned repeatedly if there is free space on the disc and the disc was not closed previously by the user. Q: How does PhotoSave DVD store the photo files on the disc? On the initial startup screen, the user is given three options to make a photo backup:
1. Auto Copy mode
2. Camera/Memory Copy mode (if a camera or camera based storage card is connected).
3. Manual Copy mode
If you are a beginner or just want to quickly back up all of your valuable photos, we recommend you select Auto Copy mode. Auto Copy will search for all of your jpeg files and automatically burn them to the disc. Just hit "Record" after verifying which disc volume should be searched.
If you'd like to store to the DVD directly from a digital camera attached to the PC or a memory card which is used as the storage in a digital camera, your choice should be Camera/Memory Copy mode.
Manual Copy mode is for more experienced users who may want to:
- store only specific photo files or file folders
- store photo or video file types other than jpegs
- view/rotate specific files before saving
- burn data to the disc multiple times (leave the disc open)
- create new folder titles on the disc
Q: What is the meaning of a "closed disc" and the check box option "Close disc after recording for archiving/viewing"? Once a disc is closed, further burning sessions are not allowed, so files cannot be added. A disc must be closed for viewing in a DVD-ROM drive. However, the photos of an open disc can be viewed in a DVD-R burner.
If the disc will be archived or given to another person for photo viewing, we recommend that the disc be closed - just check the "Close disc after recording for archiving/viewing" box before choosing "Record" in the ManualCopy mode or Camera/MemoryCopy mode. If you need to add data later, the box should not be checked. Q: How do I select the photo file locations to make a backup? In the AutoCopy mode, you can select the disk volume location from the pull-down menu. Options are the "My Pictures" folder (default), "All local Disks" or any individual local disk volume that is recognized by the PC. After selecting the location, just click "Record" and PhotoSave DVD automatically searches for JPEG files from the location you selected and burns the data to the DVD.
In the ManualCopy mode, you can create the backup file list by either dragging the files or auto-scanning the drive. The list can be modified before burning and you can go back to the previous operation anytime before clicking "Record"
In Camera/MemoryCopy mode, you can create the file list from a PC recognized Camera/Memory drive/folder. The list can be modified before burning and you can go back to the previous operation anytime before clicking "Record". Q: How do I view the backup files on a PhotoSave disc? After inserting a burned disc, a startup window appears. You can either launch Windows Explorer to view the files or go into manual copy mode to add more photo files (if the disc was left open and there is free space available). You can explore the disc in Windows Explorer like any other storage medium. Q: My total file data is over 4.5GB (1GB = 1 billion bytes). Can I make a backup set of my entire data? Yes! PhotoSave DVD supports Multi-disc recording. PhotoSave DVD automatically calculates the total size of your selected photo files and shows the number of PhotoSave DVD discs required to save all of this data. You have the choice to proceed (if you have enough discs on hand) or cancel. Just follow the instructions in the window. Q: Is there a list of backup files when multiple discs are utilized for recording? There is a list of backup files on each burned disc. The list shows the disc number within the set as well as the folder information (size and the number of files).
ATTENTION: In AutoCopy mode, PhotoSave burns data only one time. In ManualCopy mode and Camera/Memory/Copy mode, it burns data repeatedly if there is free space on the disc.
