Verbatim Announces World’s First Mini DVD-R DL Media
09/08/2006
8cm Write-Once Discs Provide Continuous 54-minute DVD Recording for Camcorders.

Verbatim, leading manufacturer of optical storage media, has launched the world’s first Mini DVD-R Dual (DL) discs..  Measuring just 8cm in diameter, the new discs provide 54 minutes*, or 2.6GB, of continuous video capture time on a single side. And the disc label side can still be used for marking the disc.

The media will be compatible with some of the latest generation camcorders including the new Canon models DC21 and DC22. The discs have almost twice the storage capacity of current single-layer mini DVD-R discs. Double layer technology enables users to record video without the interruptions typical of two-sided recordable media, thus preventing losing any unrepeatable scenes.

Individual Verbatim Mini DVD-R DL cost £6.50 while the 5-pack is available for £32.50. The media can be recorded with all drives supporting the -R DL 8cm format.

The Mini DVD-R DL media features Verbatim’s unique ultra-hard ‘ScratchGuard’ technology. The ScratchGuard protective coating makes the discs resistant to scratches, abrasion and traces of grease, for example from finger prints and ensures liquid - coffee or tea - will bead and roll off the media. This provides additional protection when using a camcorder while traveling or in extreme outdoor conditions.

Fully compatible with the DVD-R DL 8cm standard, Verbatim’s new Mini DVD-R DL media can be played back by the majority of the current DVD players and DVD ROM drives. With broad playback support, recorded videos and photos can be easily shared and can be viewed on almost every TV or computer.

“The new generation of camcorders come with even more features and performance,” said Torsten Leye, Verbatim Marketing Manager Optical. “Optical storage media has to keep up with this development – both in terms of recording quality and capacity and in terms of durability and usability. Verbatim meets all these requirements with the new Mini DVD-R DL disc - which allows nearly one hour of continuous recording, providing ample material for cutting the perfect video.”

Ron Stuart, General Manager, Verbatim UK said, "With camcorders becoming more popular for holidays and days out it is important that people know that they can rely upon the media that's recording their memories. All Verbatim media has an exceptionally long archive life - 100 years and with the ScratchGuard it makes it the ideal media to take with you."
