Household lighting in Europe is becoming greener as the European Union sets higher energy efficiency standards.
On 1 September 2009, incandescent light bulbs and other energy inefficient lamps started to be gradually replaced by more energy efficient lamps in Europe. By switching to more energy efficient lighting products, European households can save energy and contribute to reaching the EUs climate protection targets.
From 1st Sept 2013 onwards a new EU directive concerning Energy labeling (No 874/2012) will be active. With it, a new Energy label for lamps including LED lamps will be released which will push energy efficiency classes up to A+ & A++ for lighting solutions.
